Weddings have traditionally taken place on a Saturday, often in the summer – but in this post-recession world, a hot trend is emerging – weekday weddings.
Most couples have a perfect wedding planned – often in the spring or summer months to maximise the possibility of great weather – and usually on a Saturday so that all their friends and family can easily attend.
One issue is that many of the most popular wedding venues are booked-up up more than a year ahead on Saturdays, and their popularity enables them to charge premium prices which may be beyond the means of many young people.
Young couples are under more monetary strain than ever before – many have student loans that they still have to pay off – and banks are demanding much bigger deposits before they’ll offer a loan on a starter home.
There’s little doubt that in the prevailing financial climate, extravagant weddings are out, and cheap weddings are in! With so many couples looking to save money on their wedding – when they discover that the venue of their choice is much cheaper on a weekday than on a Saturday, it’s not surprising that increasing numbers are making a choice to tie the knot on a weekday.
Of course there are drawbacks to a weekday ceremony too – the most important one being that friends and relatives will need to take a day off work to attend – which some may not be able to do. Fewer guests attending your wedding reception will also help to save money, and its likely that your closest family and friends will want to be there, irrespective of which day of the week is chosen.
If a weekday wedding does not appeal, there are plenty of other ways to save money and still have a great wedding – but there’s little doubt that marrying on a weekday is an increasingly popular option for budget-conscious couples – and something definitely worth looking into.
