How to plan the perfect wedding day

WEDDING DAY FASHION – SOME TIPS FOR THE GUYS

Weddings and what to wear to them…. it’s an age-old saga.  And it’s not just the fairer sex who have wedding wardrobe wobbles, it happens to the guys too.

Whether it’s formalwear for the groom, the best man, the father of the bride, the awkward uncle or the male guests… the choice has to make the grade.  You wouldn’t want your fashion faux pas broadcast all over the social networks or in the family photograph album, would you?.

Dressing appropriately for the occasion is vital, says Dunsborough wedding suit hire specialist, Stepping Up Menswear.  The most important thing is to check the details on the invitation.  If the invite stipulates ‘black tie’ – then you need to dig out your tuxedo.  You can also wear your tuxedo if the dress code is ‘formal’, but usually a dark suit would be your best choice of menswear.  ’Morning suits’ ie. top hats and tails is generally reserved for very traditional English style weddings, very grand occasions or celebs or royals tying the knot.

Most weddings are still considered to be formal occasions which require men to wear formal suits.  Unless of course, the happy couple are tying the knot on a beach, barefoot and clad in flowing white linen… in which case, you would ditch your charcoal grey, freshly drycleaned suit for something a bit more ‘suitable’!  If it’s a spring or summer wedding in the day time, mens’ suits can be light in colour and light in fabric, but the proper way is to wear a dark cotton suit.  Winter and night-time weddings require dark mens suits (navy, charcoal, gray) in a heavier fabric, usually wool.  Tuxedos generally aren’t worn before 5.00pm in the evening.

Always choose menswear that complements your body shape.  If you’re short and slim, opt for a jacket that has two or three buttons and a deep ‘V’ shape to elongate your body.  A single breasted jacket with one or two buttons is best for short and wider men.

Another important thing to remember when it comes to wedding formal wear is that guests should never outdo the bridal party.  If they’re wearing black tie, then you should keep your tuxedo in the cupboard and go for a dark suit instead.

If you have any questions about what the appropriate dress for a wedding or any other formal occasion is, why not pay a visit to a formal hire shop in your area ?.  They’re bound to have some excellent ideas about what suits your shape, your budget and of course, the function …plus it’s surprisingly affordable too.
