The role of the wedding celebrant is a vital part of each marriage. They need to make sure the ceremony conforms with the requirements of the Wedding ACT 1961 and afterwards to be sure the proper forms are lodged with the relevant registering authority. They also have to make sure that your ceremony reflects your wishes and tastes. A professional and experienced celebrant will change the entire feeling of the wedding. So you must be sure the celebrant you choose is the best one for you.
Ceremonies can be as short as 5 minutes or as long as you like (within reason). As long as they contain the words of the Monitum and the Promise variations allowed all else is your decision. So where do you start? Who do you include? What makes the words reflect how you feel about one another?
For me, this is the most exciting and engaging part of a celebrant’s role. As we sit down together for our initial planning session we take a look at lots of ideas to get you started. I then email a soft copy of the ideas and some sample wedding ceremonies for you to look at. No couple is exactly the same – and your wedding should be just as unique.
Everyone these days is exceptionally busy so plenty of our communication is through email or phone. It doesn’t take long for the draft ceremony outline to take shape and as the pieces come together it remains flexible right up until the event itself.
Typically the day before the marriage we get together for a rehearsal and walk thru the ceremony. This ensures everybody knows where they have to be and what they need to do.
It’s common to pass some time considering the decorations for the reception and the kind of music the DJ is playing – but it is equally as important to find the correct celebrant for your ceremony.
