So your wedding is over, and everything went smoothly! So, how can your honeymoon possibly go awry? Surprisingly enough, there are lots of things that can happen to sour the sweetest of honeymoons. By keeping in mind some simple things, you can assure that your honeymoon, whether it is a honeymoon in Puerto Rico or in exotic Bali, will be the perfect experience you’ll always remember.
First of all, spending some time planning. It’s great to decide ahead of time how much money to spend and the general itinerary. Certainly, both folks will want to see certain sights, and have different interests to pursue. Avoid fights and stress by ensuring everyone is on the same page before leaving.
If it is possible, leave a few days between the wedding and leaving for the honeymoon. Now, this isn’t always possible due to work or family constraints. If possible, though, take a little breather between events. Wedding stress has the potential to be very tiring on the body, and then piling a lot of travel right after can take a serious toll. Stress can affect your health and your mood, so don’t underestimate the advantage of starting a honeymoon rested. If you are leaving right away, make the first day or two strictly rest and relaxation. Lounge on the beach, in the room – maybe save the spelunking and hiking for the end of the trip.
Stay healthy! Drink plenty of water and eat wholesome foods. Wedding stress take a serious toll on the body, so eating healthy foods and refreshing liquids will help alleviate stress. Refuel the body with foods packed with nutrition. If you’re drinking greater amounts of alcohol on your honeymoon, be absolutely sure to also imbibe lots of water to prevent dehydration.
Don’t over-plan your honeymoon. It’s awfully tempting to try and fit absolutely everything in, but this isn’t a great idea unless you’re on an extended honeymoon. Before you leave, decide on a few “can’t-miss” attractions, and then choose judiciously among the rest. Whatever you do, don’t underestimate how tired you’ll be post-wedding. The honeymoon is, first and foremost, a time for the couple to relax together.
Be flexible. While you’re out and about on your day trips, be spontaneous if you stumble on something interesting. In an unfamiliar locale, you’re bound to find lots of fun surprises; don’t be slavishly devoted to your planned itinerary.
Finally, be patient with each other. Once your wedding is over, a couple can suddenly feel overwhelmed with too much free time. Patience is one of the key secrets to a successful marriage; use your honeymoon as a place to start exercising this trait. Resist the temptation to let small annoyances turn into major disagreements. You and your spouse can use these tips for a relaxing honeymoon. Remember, you’re on vacation!
