Your wedding ring is one of the most important parts of the ceremony. Being able to design your own wedding ring can be very satisfing, but it can be difficult to know where to start! Fortunately it is not that difficult to design a wedding ring in most cases due to the following rules.
Firstly you need to decide on a budget. This is vitally important as it’s very difficult to start designing a wedding ring when you don’t have an idea of how much you can spend. If you want a jeweller to create a unique ring for you it will probably cost more because of the extra labour cost, so make sure you take that into account.
Make sure that your wedding ring design matches your engagement ring. The simplest option is to choose the same metal colour as the engagement ring. If you go for a simple band then this makes it easy to design a ring, but if you want a more complicated design with diamonds or other gems then you must make sure they don’t clash with the engagement ring as they’ll be worn on the same finger.
Now you need to decide on which jewels you’ll include in the design. This is often where the cost will be increased greatly! If you’re going for diamond then you’ll have to decide what carat you want. If you go for a half carat diamond it can save a lot of money.
Lastly, if you’re designing the ring for your partner you MUST make sure they like the design before sending it to your jeweller to be created. This will avoid disappointment on the day, and even if your partner doesn’t like it often a few simple changes made with their advice can make all the difference. While it can be nice to give them a surprise ring, it isn’t always the most sensible idea!
